2018 Jeep Wrangler Getting 8-Speed Auto Transmission

It might be a long ways away, but Jeep is already planning on what will be in their next generation of Jeep Wrangler.  Automotive News got their hands on a filing the automaker filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to show that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be getting Chrysler’s eight-speed transmission.

2018 is currently when the planned redesign is slated for the Wrangler.  The eight-speed transmission that will be used is already in Chrysler vehicles such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2014 Dodge Durango.   The transmission provides much better fuel economy over the previous year.

According to the filing, “We plan to use this transmission in all of our rear-wheel-drive vehicles, except for heavy-duty versions of the Ram pick-up truck and the SRT Viper.”

Not much else is known about what to expect from the redesign of the Wrangler.  At least we know thanks to Chrysler filings that it will be looking to improve fuel economy with a better automatic transmission.
