Jeep’s Big Plans for the Future

It’s the start of a new month and with it comes news that Jeep is looking to do some house cleaning. All attention of late is on the resurrection of the Dart name and Jeep is looking to be steal some thunder with their announcements on the future of Jeep.

Motortrend has the breakdown of just what Jeep is doing to keep itself fresh. First up is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Being developed as competition for the seven-passenger Chevrolet Suburban. It’s also going to be the replacement for the aging Dodge Durango. Don’t worry if you happen to be a Durango fan, however, because Dodge isn’t planning on scrapping the SUV altogether with plans in the next few years to give it a new look with a new plant.

Next big plan that Jeep has is to bring the Jeep Liberty back with the Cherokee badge. The Grand Cherokee will be getting a 3.0 liter diesel engine and the 8.4-inch touch screen that is a big part of the Dodge Dart and many other Chrysler vehicles. Jeep Wrangler will be getting a heavy-duty version of the new gearbox while their redesign is being put off until 2017.

Jeep is taking the necessary steps to make that in the next couple of years that their popularity will not be waning. Jeep Plant Readies for Liberty Replacement

The Jeep Liberty is getting itself a replacement. In order to get ready for the production of it, however, Chrysler is making sure that the plant responsible for this new Jeep vehicle is readying. That means the plant will be going idle this month.

Starting August 16th, the Toledo North factory will be halting their production to start shipping new models in the 2013 second quarter, according to the Detroit News. Chrysler is looking to invest around $1.7 billion to give the Jeep Liberty an upgrade and give the Toledo plant the assembly complex needed to deal with the added capacity.

The full investment will provide an expansion to the plant’s body shop with $500 million. This lets the plant also install a new metrology center that verifies the measurements of the vehicles and can improve the fit and finish of components. The plant will also need to start adding more workers. There are already 2,800 employees at the plant that assemble the Jeep Wrangler and that number is expected to increase with 1,100 new workers.

Zach Leroux, the plant manager, remarked on the challenge ahead for the plant and the new Jeep Liberty’s replacement, “We have new product and a whole new shift, so our task is tall. We have a tall challenge ahead of us.”

With the Dodge Dart on the way out in mass, it’s time for Chrysler and the rest of the brands to start really putting some hype into the next products. Other updates planned are for the Grand Cherokee and a new Ram heavy-duty truck in 2013.

New Jeep Patriot Altitude Announced

The Jeep Patriot seems to be mad that so many other vehicles such as the Dodge Dart and the Grand Cherokee are stealing its thunder. A new announcement is bound to bring the spotlight back on it, though.

This stems from the winning name of the Jeep “Name My Ride” contest. The name Altitude was officially awarded for the new fully decked out vehicle. The Wrangler, Compass, and Grand Cherokee have already gotten their similar Altitude editions, but the Patriot makes sure to bring a unique flair to the design.

The Jeep Patriot Altitude has the driver speeding down the street and over any off-road obstacles on 17-inch high-gloss black aluminum wheels. The Patriot Altitude has a subtle shine thanks to the chrome and polished steel on the lower fascia, the rear step pad appliques, and a bright polished steel roof rails.

This novel design work isn’t just on the outside, but also extends into the interior. Features that the Altitude puts into the interior design includes features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and audio controls, premium Cubic/Duet cloth bucket seats. Buyers have the choice of a standard four-speaker system or, if they want more bang for their buck, there’s the Boston Acoustics Premium Sound System with a 368-watt amplifier.

The Jeep Patriot Altitude is available for a limited time only, so make sure to get into Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge for a test drive. You can view the entire line-up of Jeep products on the online showroom as well. Be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for up to date news on Jeep.
