2014 Jeep Cherokee: New Design Draws Criticism

12331995-largeJalopnik managed a fast one the other week when they got their hands on leaked photos of the upcoming 2014 Jeep Cherokee.  Originally planned to not be unveiled until the New York Auto Show; the website forced Jeep’s hand in releasing more detailed information about the new vehicle before the debut.  A few shots of the new design made headlines across the auto-blogs and really got people talking.  The most obvious, and most commented on, was the new design.  Such a vast departure from the norm was going to get people’s attention, but it’s a question now of if it was too much.

Forbes breaks down the response so far to the reveal.  “The evolution from the old, boxy Cherokee to the current Liberty and now to this has been pretty stunning in terms of the shape-shifting that we’ve seen, “says Mike Wall who is an auto analyst with HIS Automotive.

The Cherokee is being pulled out of retirement to replace the lagging Liberty.  The Jeep Liberty had done the same back in 2002.  This new Cherokee still includes the trademark Jeep designs such as a seven vertical slat grille, but it stops there.

The lights, for example, have a wholly different look than Jeep fans are accustomed to.   In fact, it may cause drivers that typically drive Jeep to shy away.  This might be the plan.  Hardcore Jeep drivers have already found the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee to be their preference.  The 2014 Cherokee with a new look may be a play to attract a new breed of Jeep drivers who are looking for something different.

Until more information is released, all that really remains is scrutiny over the little information available.  The pictures certainly paint a picture, but it’s just a segment.  Trying to put together the entire piece right now just seems wrong with so much mystery.

10th Anniversary Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

2013-rubicon-anniversary-gallery-02It’s time for an anniversary! Don’t worry, it’s not one that you forgot for a significant other (at least I hope not) but for the Jeep Rubicon. Hard to believe that the popular Jeep started life just a decade ago. Jeeps is celebrating by offering up a new version of the vehicle for Wrangler lovers who want something to mark the occasion.

So what was added to the already phenomenal Jeep Wrangler Rubicon? For starters, the interior has an optional Radar Red and Black leather-trimmed for the seats. The seats come standard with heating for the front as well. There’s a stamped name plate for the Jeep right on the front passenger grab handle. There’s even a plague on the dash that lists the Jeep’s technical details.

Of course the Rubicon has stayed popular for so long due to the one of a kind ruggedness it offers that Jeep fans expect. If you build a Jeep that celebrates 10 years of that expectation, you’d better make sure it shows. So Jeep put in a steel reinforced, winch-capable premium front bumper that has the fog lamps built right in so it can tackle the toughest terrain. A stamped steel skid plate makes it so that the Rubicon can take the punches that the outdoors give. Thanks to the BFGoodrich that come standard, the Jeep is able to take on slick rocks, wet mud, even sand due to the the wider foot print and improved sidewall protection.

The 10th Anniversary Rubicon also has a specially designed hood. A power dome, special drainage systems, and side vents are specifiably designed to support off-road hijinks.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Will Have Clean Diesel Technology

UntitledWith the excitement and buzz still at a high after the unveiling of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the International Auto Show, this news should help even more.  The word ‘green’ is used a considerable amount these days in an effort to appeal to with concerns about the changing climate of the world.  Companies big and tall make great efforts to show how much they support the cause of doing what they can to help out the environment.  Jeep is striving for this as well and they are showing that support by having the 2014 Grand Cherokee have clean diesel technology.

Bosch, a major technology supplier, will be helping Jeep to accomplish this goal.  The Grand Cherokee will have a 3.0-Liter EcoDiesel V-6 engines which will have a Bosch Common Rail Diesel Fuel Injection System.  That’s what holds the MultiJet II technology.  This is the tech that makes clean diesel in the new Jeep happen.

“Jeep’s announcement marks an important milestone as this iconic brand will help make clean diesel more popular in the North American Market,” said Bernd Boisten, the regional president of Diesel Systems North America.  “The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a Bosch emission system compliant with most stringent emissions regulations in the world.  From fuel tank to tailpipe, Bosch is pleased to equip this vehicle with top technologies to give consumers a great driving experience requiring fewer stops at the pump.”

This is a huge step for numerous car companies, Jeep included.  In fact, Bosch is saying that by 2017 the US will have about 54 clean diesel vehicles.
