Jeep Is Bringing the All-New Jeep Cherokee to China

2014 Jeep Cherokee - 01The new Jeep Cherokee is not resting on its laurels after debuting at the New York Auto Show.  It’s packing its bags and flying overseas to impress a growing global market.  China is becoming a major player in SUV sales and Jeep is looking to really make their mark there.

It helps that China is already a big fan of Jeep’s product.  The brand sales in 2012 were record setting.  Jeep more than doubled the prior year’s results.  The stand-out seller was the Jeep Compass.

Mike Manley, President and CEO of Jeep Brand, was speaking at the Shanghai Auto Show over the weekend and said that he believed the new Cherokee will have an easy time breaking into the Chinese market.  “Jeep is our global brand and, since its inception, the all-new Jeep Cherokee was conceived and developed not only for our home market of the U.S. but also for world markets.”

The Cherokee is expected in Chinese showrooms near the end of 2013.  It won’t be making the trip alone, however.  The Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition will also be having their Asian premieres.  Jeeps that are made in China will not have an impact on the current production of them stateside.

It’s going to be interesting to see how China’s influence as such a large buying market affects not just Jeep, but the auto industry as a whole.

See If You Can Spot the Jeep Easter Eggs

UntitledQuick question for Jeep lovers. How closely have you looked at your Jeep? Think about it for a second. The reason I’m asking is that you might have missed something. A detail that was put in that one the most dedicated fans would not only find, but appreciate.

The Toledo Blade has done a little digging into the ‘easter eggs’ that the Jeep has been putting on their vehicles. They are tributes to the original Willys model from 60 some years ago.

Take a gander at the windshield of the Jeep Wrangler, for example. There’s a decal of the infamous front four rimmed grille honoring the legacy of the Jeep from World War 2. More of them are littered on various places.

It’s not just the Wrangler that has easter eggs. On the new 2013 model of the Wrangler Sahara and Rubicons, there’s a small Willys Jeep silhouette. The purpose is to mark the 10th anniversary of the Wrangler Rubicon. That same silhouette will be tucked away in the headlamp assembly of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to Ralph Gilles, VP for product design at Chrysler, the practice began a few years ago. “It’s something that started three or four years ago and it’s really taken off. Now I have to almost control it. They can get out of hand. But (designers) are so proud of what they work on, they really are. It’s almost like actively trying to leave a legacy for the next generation.”

Take a second look at your Jeep, see if there is something there that you didn’t notice before. Never know what you might find if you look for it.

10th Anniversary Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

2013-rubicon-anniversary-gallery-02It’s time for an anniversary! Don’t worry, it’s not one that you forgot for a significant other (at least I hope not) but for the Jeep Rubicon. Hard to believe that the popular Jeep started life just a decade ago. Jeeps is celebrating by offering up a new version of the vehicle for Wrangler lovers who want something to mark the occasion.

So what was added to the already phenomenal Jeep Wrangler Rubicon? For starters, the interior has an optional Radar Red and Black leather-trimmed for the seats. The seats come standard with heating for the front as well. There’s a stamped name plate for the Jeep right on the front passenger grab handle. There’s even a plague on the dash that lists the Jeep’s technical details.

Of course the Rubicon has stayed popular for so long due to the one of a kind ruggedness it offers that Jeep fans expect. If you build a Jeep that celebrates 10 years of that expectation, you’d better make sure it shows. So Jeep put in a steel reinforced, winch-capable premium front bumper that has the fog lamps built right in so it can tackle the toughest terrain. A stamped steel skid plate makes it so that the Rubicon can take the punches that the outdoors give. Thanks to the BFGoodrich that come standard, the Jeep is able to take on slick rocks, wet mud, even sand due to the the wider foot print and improved sidewall protection.

The 10th Anniversary Rubicon also has a specially designed hood. A power dome, special drainage systems, and side vents are specifiably designed to support off-road hijinks.
