Jeep Cherokee Radio Ad Causes Controversy

Cherokee Ad Causes Controversey

We’ve all had that moment, watching a movie or an ad where someone is doing some serious stunt driving.  I have that all the time while watching a Fast and Furious film.  It’s a fantasy to want to rush out and hop into a car and attempt to replicate the outrageous stunts.  However, a recent ad for the Jeep Cherokee has some critics concerned it is endorsing dangerous driving.

The Guardian points to complaints over in England having issues with a Jeep radio ad that encouraged drivers to drive the Jeep Cherokee dangerously in winter weather.  The ad featured a weather forecast calling for a ton of snow.  A voice-over comes on saying, “Time to play” with a cut away to hearing “snow mode activated” in an electronic voice.  The tag line was then announced: “Make winter your favorite sport with Jeep.  This season, get the new Jeep Cherokee.”

The line of “time to play” is what is causing Jeep the most grief.  A massive amount of 6 people complained that this specific line was the culprit for irresponsible driving.  This line proved that Jeep was secretly informing drivers to use the Jeep Cherokee no matter the weather, and lizard people are real.

Fiat-Chrysler’s response was that the line was meant to single that the Cherokee is ideal for winter weather and has modes made to help drivers out on the ice and snow.  The RACC, the clearance body of commercial radio’s advertising, agreed with Chrysler’s statement.  However, the Advertising Standards Authority did not.

They saw the “time to play” line as “…subsequently encouraged unsafe driving practices.”  It is hard not to shake my head at this.  We have, as a public, been widely informed on how marketing works.  There’s even a popular TV show centered on the people who use media to manipulate emotions to get people to buy products.  There is always the question of when does marketing cross a line and with the world of car commercials out there, I can’t say this one did anything egregious.  Chrysler is right that the “time to play” is in reference to the people who enjoy Jeeps for what they can do, especially in bad weather.  To say that it encourages bad driving is just silly.

New Jeep Renegades Hides Plenty of Easter Eggs

Jeep Renegade Easter Eggs - JeepDealerNY

The 2015 Jeep Renegade is the new Jeep for a new generation.  It has a great lore for its creation with the design team pulling their youngest designers in and tasking them with coming up with the Jeep they would want.  The Renegade clearly has a stylish look and is aimed at bringing a younger crowd into the Jeep market.  Turns out, however, that the designers also managed to sneak in some great easter eggs for the older Jeep fans.

The Herald-News has a break-down of all the hidden design nods they were able to locate.  Many of the easter eggs are meant to point back to the creation of the Jeep with homages to the original Willys Jeep.  One such is the “X” stamped onto the Renegade’s taillights to mimic the look of the jerry cans the old Willys Jeeps would carry.

Another call back to that older Jeep is in the form of a silhouette printed on the wheels and grille of the Renegade.  More of these stamps are also on the inside of the tailgate and in the taillights.  Another one that the article doesn’t note is that the Moab off-road is on the center tray.

That’s all that have been made known to the public for the time being, but there is no doubt to more being included in the Renegade’s design.  We can’t wait to see what other things they included.

Jalopnik Collects all 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rumors

Jalonpik 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rumors - JeepDealerNY

When something new is on the horizon, everyone seems to have the rumor and the scoop on just what to expect.  It is the nature of the news cycle, to be so desperate to break the story that there is little time for fact checking.  The 2017 Jeep Wrangler is a much sought after news story in the auto world and it doesn’t help that Jeep is saying nothing in concern for what is to be expected from the Jeep.  Jalopnik has done a service and collected all the rumors under one roof for readers to speculate over.

Some of the rumors they mention are ones that don’t really even need confirmation.  An example is that the 2017 model will be redesigned.  As they say, this is a given.  Fiat-Chrysler confirmed as much during their five-year plan meeting in which the 2017 redesign was shown in a slide.  Not that anything was shown other than this is happening, however.

Being tight-lipped can also cause a great deal of worry for fans.  For some, it is that a new Wrangler may ditch what makes the Jeep so desirable in the first place.  Will the new gas regulations force Jeep to lower the quality and power in the new Wrangle?  Will the new Jeep skimp on power to save production costs?  This leads into my favorite line of the article, “As anybody whose ever been on a Jeep forum knows; any new Jeep sucks and the outgoing one is the only real Jeep.  Such is the cycle.”  There is a lot of truth here.  The internet has a tendency to be up in arms about speculation.

This reminds me of when the Cherokee was first shown and the Jeep community lost their collective minds over the new look.  Yet, this didn’t stop the new Cherokee from being a major winner in sales for Jeep.  It’s impossible to tell based on rumors just how good or bad something is going to be.

Check out the whole write-up as there is plenty of rumors not covered here.  It’s going to be a long while until Jeep officially confirms anything with the Cherokee and until then, best to take everything with a grain of salt, stay calm, and have faith that Jeep is working hard to make sure that the Wrangler stays a quality product in their line-up.
