Is Hybrid Engines the Future for Jeep?

One of the biggest successes of late for Chrysler is the new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.  The new minivan has been winning awards and fans as news of its amazing stats get out.  One of the most notable is how the hybrid powertrain gets it 84 miles per gallon equivalent in electric-only mode and 33 miles of all-electric range.  The future of the auto industry is figuring out how to best approach the upcoming electric trend and with the Pacifica leading the way, Jeep maybe offering hybrid powertrains in all of their future vehicles.

FCAuthority is reporting that Jeep will be having hybrid powertrains available on the majority of their vehicles in the future.  Sergio Marchionne was speaking with reporters in Toronto last Friday and told them that Jeep is at work on hybrid powertrains.  These will “become visible in the next two to three years.”

The article goes on to reference that Marchionne had already said the Jeep Wrangler JL will have a hybrid version.  The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will also have a hybrid powertrain.  It certainly seems to be the way of the future.  The green craze that is going around the auto industry is going to be replicated where it can and the Pacifica is a sign that FCA is committed to achieving this in most of their line-ups.  While Dodge is pushing out the horsepower with their monster engines, it seems that Jeep will be seeing what having hybrid powertrains can help it do.

2017 Jeep Compass is the Activity Vehicle of Texas and the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is the Premium Utility Vehicle of Texas!

The Texas Auto Writers Association gave out their awards at their annual Texas Auto Roundup and one of the biggest winners by brand was Jeep.  The brand took home some of the highest honors of the evening including the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass which is already making a name for itself with auto critics.

“The Jeep brand vehicles also impressed our judges.  The 2017 Jeep Compass led the diverse Activity Vehicle category, offering excellent versatility, capability and Jeep’s go-anywhere styling…” said Nic Phillips, President of the Texas Auto Writers Association.

The 2017 Jeep Compass won the Activity Vehicle of Texas and the other major winner from Jeep was the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.  It was voted the Premium Utility Vehicle winner.

Phillips continued, “…the Grand Cherokee SRT continues to demonstrate the incredible package of handling, power and segment value, worthy of our Performance Utility Vehicle award.”

The awards for the Jeep brand added with the major wins that the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid won meant that FCA US had the most awards of any other car maker at the annual competition.

Is Jeep Being Spun-Off From FCA?

In the recent years, Jeep has been leading the sales for the Chrysler family.  It is one of the most popular brands in America and is starting to really catch on globally.  Jeep has been expanding into various different countries and is becoming a global phenom.  Does that mean it is time to start thinking of Jeep being its own brand?

The Detroit Free Press spoke with Fiat-Chrysler’s chief Sergio Marchionne and asked if he was considering making Jeep and Ram trucks their own brand?  The response was “Yes.”

Would spinning Jeep and Ram trucks off into their brand really change things?  Not really.  Marchionne did the same thing with Ferrari and it turned out fine for everyone.  Jeep and Ram trucks getting their own brand would make a splashy news headline, but ultimately wouldn’t impact either brands.  It may just be Marchionne wanting to keep the raising trend for both brands up by doing what he can to make sure Jeep and Ram are consistently news-worthy.  In the end, Jeep and Ram will continue to produce quality machines no matter what brand they are operating under.
