2017 Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee Top Cars.com 2017 American-Made Index

On our main blog over at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge, the Jeep Wrangler and the Cherokee placed first and second on the overall rankings of vehicles on the Cars.com

Cars.com has put out their annual American-Made Index for 2017 and the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Cherokee both placed high on the list among all the vehicles.  The Cherokee ranked second and the Wrangler is the top spot on the list.

“As a descendant of the military Jeep that helped the Allies win World War II, the Jeep Wrangler already has strong American credentials,” said Joe Wiesenfelder, the Cars.com executive editor.  “In Cars.com’s 2017 American Made Index, the Wrangler’s American roots prove as deep as its image.  The SUV has been long been a Cars.com favorite for off-roaders and sun-lovers.”

The Cars.com American-Made Index is put together based on five key criteria.  This includes assembly locations, domestic parts content, country of origin for the engine and the transmission, and the US factory employment.  Using that info, Cars.com put together that the Wrangler 2-door is 74 percent American Made and the 4-door is 76 percent American Made.  The Wrangler is currently being made in Toledo, Ohio.

“We are delighted to celebrate America’s most patriotic day with the news that Cars.com’s American-Made Index has ranked Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee as the two overall most-American vehicles for 2017,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand FCA Global.  “On this Fourth of July holiday we salute the dedicated employees who build Wrangler and Cherokee, as well as the loyal Jeep owners who drive them.”

2013 Jeep Wrangler Takes Home Four Wheeler of the Year

The Jeep Wrangler has taken home numerous awards in the past including Cars.com’s Best New Car for Off-Roaders, SEMA Show’s Hottest 4×4, and Ward’s Top 4 Engine. Now for the third year in a row, the Jeep Wrangler has taken home Four Wheeler‘s Four Wheeler of the Year award.

The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Moab Edition was announced as the winner early last week, and before it was named winner, Four Wheeler put the Jeep Wrangler through its paces. They tested it out on an off-road trail, pavement, and on a ramp, and they noted, “The Moab traversed all of the sand we threw at it, and it threw plenty back.”

In addition to road performance, they also looked at the vehicles interior and were obviously impressed with the Wrangler’s additional driver comforts. One judge said, “The inside is getting almost too nice for a Wrangler,” but the judges were ultimately happy with the leather seats, audio system, and 6.5-inch touchscreen display since it never affected the vehicle’s off-road performance.

Jeep Wrangler

According to Four Wheeler magazine, it’s the best 4×4 vehicle of the decade.  To Cars.com it’s the best new car for off-roaders.  It’s been awarded the top domestic brand residual value in 2010.  One of the most iconic Jeeps on the market for its performance and look, the Jeep Wrangler is the perfect choice for anyone looking to take the road less traveled.
With the Jeep Wrangler you don’t have to choose between your favorite car and paying more for gas thanks to its 10 percent increase in gas efficiency.  That’s going to come in handy when driving around with the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine powering any drive on the back roads of America now with 40 percent more horsepower, 10 percent more torque, and 26 percent faster 0-60 mph.  You can expect to be on the road more and in the station less with the new Jeep Wrangler.
It continues the iconic look incorporating it’s classic look of the seven slotted grille and round headlamps that the Jeep Wrangler is best known for.  It’s also the only 4×4 on the market that is convertible with its open-air design, perfect for that jaunt out in the wilderness.  It’ll be a smooth ride, the Jeep Wrangler is built with comfort in mind.  The insides is lined with only the best of soft-touch materials allowing for a peaceful ride thanks for the vehicles improved NVH (Noise, Vibration, Handling).  It also comes with audio controls right on the steering wheel, allowing easy access and control over the Infinity Premium Sound system that has seven speakers for giving the best possible listen to any radio station or song.  When you add on the ability to have front seats, already decked out in leather trim, heated it’s just too hard to want to turn down.

According to Four Wheeler magazine, it’s the best 4×4 vehicle of the decade.

Jeep is proud about their 4WD in their car brands.  To showcase just how proud they are of the quality, they have their own badge that is found on all of the 4x4s that pass every test they throw at them.  It’s the Jeep Trail Rated badge and if it’s on the jeep, then be guarantee that it’s been rigorously tested to be approved.  In order to get that badge it must pass in the following categories:
・    Articulation
・    Maneuverability
・    Water Fording
・    Ground Clearance
・    Traction
This is where the Wrangler really gets to show off it’s stuff.  It has the most traction of any Wrangler EVER.  Best in class water fording capability (which is up to an astonishing 30 inches of water).  Best in class ground clearance and even best in class turning diameter.  That’s a lot of best in class wins for the Wrangler and it comes for a reason.
Moving on to the engine of this amazing machine, it’s all about the 3.6L Pentastar V6.  With the ability to deliver 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, you’d expect it to have to come at a cost.  Not really, in fact, this engine offers an improvement in the fuel efficiency, giving up to 21 miles per gallon on that venture out to the Adirondacks for the weekend.  It comes with two options for the transmission, the first being a five speed automatic and the other being a six speed manual transmission.
A Jeep this good makes sure to maintain that quality it brags about all the way into the protection it offers the driver and any passengers.  A prime example of the lengths Jeep goes to make you safe and sound is the sports bar that uses high strength steel to improve the side impact performance as well as control when at highway speeds.  The airbags that the Wrangler has is multistage for both the driver and front passenger.  There is also side supplemental airbags.  For even more peace of mind, there are available seat mounted side airbags that deploy from the outboard side of the seat that enhances the protection for the head and thorax should a side impact occur.  In all, Jeep earns it’s bragging rights with the quality of the drive and the safety that it ensures anyone driving or riding.
