Jeep Is Bringing the All-New Jeep Cherokee to China

The new Jeep Cherokee is not resting on its laurels after debuting at the New York Auto Show. It’s packing its bags and flying overseas to impress a growing global market. China is becoming a major player in SUV sales and Jeep is looking to really make their mark there.

It helps that China is already a big fan of Jeep’s product. The brand sales in 2012 were record setting. Jeep more than doubled the prior year’s results. The stand-out seller was the Jeep Compass.

Mike Manley, President and CEO of Jeep Brand, was speaking at the Shanghai Auto Show over the weekend and said that he believed the new Cherokee will have an easy time breaking into the Chinese market. “Jeep is our global brand and, since its inception, the all-new Jeep Cherokee was conceived and developed not only for our home market of the U.S. but also for world markets.”

The Cherokee is expected in Chinese showrooms near the end of 2013. It won’t be making the trip alone, however. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10^th Anniversary Edition will also be having their Asian premieres. Jeeps that are made in China will not have an impact on the current production of them stateside.

It’s going to be interesting to see how China’s influence as such a large buying market affects not just Jeep, but the auto industry as a whole.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Gets Motortrend First Test

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has sparked a long discussion about the changes done to its appearance. Overall, I think it’s safe to say that, while there is criticism, most people are embracing what they see as a new change for the better. It’s the age-old adage, ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t.’ Making such a drastic decision in the design shows that Jeep is serious about their brand and vehicles stays strong with the recent resurgence. It’s a commitment to doing what is needed to ensure a future rather than being safe and sticking to what is already known.

Chrysler has also been pushing the idea of having diesel versions of their popular vehicles due to fan demand. The 2014 Grand Cherokee is one of the many vehicles that will be getting an EcoDiesel version. Motortrend got their hands on it and gave it the full run-through to see how it holds up.

They found there was an improvement on the fuel economy. The base EcoDiesel is the V6 and is rated at 21 mpg for city and 28 mpg for highway. The non-diesel is rated for 17 mpg and 24 mpg highway. As far as it compares to its competitors, the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne, it’s pretty mixed in that it’s not much different.

What does give the 2014 Grand Cherokee the edge is it manages to provide offers for the consumers the others don’t. One is air suspension which the competition doesn’t even have as an option. The EcoDiesel provides a relaxed ride and is quiet.

Their conclusion is that the new Jeep is much better in what it offers drivers beyond the engine performance. Three different four-wheel-drive systems, adjustable ride height, and easily removable front and rear fasciae all come together to give the Jeep what it needs to edge forward in value. What the editors decided was to advise looking at the Limited trim of the Grand Cherokee which they believe to be the best for the money.

2014 Jeep Cherokee: It’s What’s Inside That Counts!

The new look for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been a hot topic of late. In order to deal with the critics who have seemed timid about the new direction, Jeep has been putting an emphasis on what’s beneath the new look. A real Jeep isn’t defined by its exterior, but by what it can do. A jeep is made for someone looking for an aggressive drive, someone who wants to make his own road.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee may be sporting a new and distinct look that separates it from its prior pedigree, but it has heart where it matters. Jeep wants to assure fans that just because the style has evolved that the capability hasn’t been left behind. In fact, the 2014 Cherokee will be the first ever mid-sized SUV to feature rear-axle disconnect. This helps to reduce energy loss, leading to a better fuel efficiency, by not using 4×4 when it’s unnecessary.

The new Cherokee is coming out to replace the aging Liberty and that means it’d better make sure to bring an improvement over its predecessor. The 2014 Cherokee has much more power in the engine with a new nine-speed transmission. There are two variations of engines available to choose from. First is the 2.4-liter Tigershark with 184 horsepower and gets 31 mpg on the highway. Second choice is the 2.3-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. It’s built with the intention to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness in mind and is capable of 271 horsepower.

With all the fuss that’s been said about the outside, no one has really mentioned the inside. The 2014 Cherokee will come loaded with over 70 available safety and security features such as the inclusion of 10 standard airbags. The dashboard has two ways of viewing the vehicle’s information. One is a 3.5 inch greyscale thin-film transistor LED. The other is the 7-inch full color reconfiguarble instrument cluster. Chrysler’s popular Uconnect system will be included and will have either the standard 5-inch touchscreen or the up-gradable 7-inch screen.

When the 2014 Cherokee is released in the third quarter of this year, it will be available in four models:

Jeep Cherokee Limited
Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
