2014 Jeep Cherokee: It’s What’s Inside That Counts!

2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailhawkThe new look for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been a hot topic of late.  In order to deal with the critics who have seemed timid about the new direction, Jeep has been putting an emphasis on what’s beneath the new look.  A real Jeep isn’t defined by its exterior, but by what it can do.  A jeep is made for someone looking for an aggressive drive, someone who wants to make his own road.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee may be sporting a new and distinct look that separates it from its prior pedigree, but it has heart where it matters.  Jeep wants to assure fans that just because the style has evolved that the capability hasn’t been left behind.  In fact, the 2014 Cherokee will be the first ever mid-sized SUV to feature rear-axle disconnect.  This helps to reduce energy loss, leading to a better fuel efficiency, by not using 4×4 when it’s unnecessary.

The new Cherokee is coming out to replace the aging Liberty and that means it’d better make sure to bring an improvement over its predecessor.  The 2014 Cherokee has much more power in the engine with a new nine-speed transmission.  There are two variations of engines available to choose from. First is the 2.4-liter Tigershark with 184 horsepower and gets 31 mpg on the highway.  Second choice is the 2.3-liter Pentastar V-6 engine.  It’s built with the intention to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness in mind and is capable of 271 horsepower.

2014 Jeep Cherokee LimitedWith all the fuss that’s been said about the outside, no one has really mentioned the inside.  The 2014 Cherokee will come loaded with over 70 available safety and security features such as the inclusion of 10 standard airbags.  The dashboard has two ways of viewing the vehicle’s information.  One is a 3.5 inch greyscale thin-film transistor LED.  The other is the 7-inch full color reconfiguarble instrument cluster.  Chrysler’s popular Uconnect system will be included and will have either the standard 5-inch touchscreen or the up-gradable 7-inch screen.

When the 2014 Cherokee is released in the third quarter of this year, it will be available in four models:

  • Jeep Cherokee Sport
  • Jeep Cherokee Latitude
  • Jeep Cherokee Limited
  • Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Jeep Liberty Gets New Power Train

Chrysler has many plans to introduce multiple new models of their vehicles for the upcoming year. The Jeep Liberty is one that’s been talked about before. It has been previously stated that the new Liberty’s facelift will be coming using the same platform as the new Dodge Dart.

A report on Autoblog.com describes new details on redesign.  The new design will be shown to the public at the Detroit Auto Show next January. It will be getting itself some new features designed, one of which is a new Pentastar engine. The new Liberty will be coming with a 3.2 liter V6 power-train and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Currently, the vehicle comes with a 3.7 liter SOHC V6 and a four-speed automatic transmission.

Serigio Marchione, the CEO of Chrysler Group, says of the new design (especially the new engine) “If we had known the eight-speed was coming, we could have made the (3.6 liter) Pentastar a 3.2 liter.”

Jeep Wrangler

According to Four Wheeler magazine, it’s the best 4×4 vehicle of the decade.  To Cars.com it’s the best new car for off-roaders.  It’s been awarded the top domestic brand residual value in 2010.  One of the most iconic Jeeps on the market for its performance and look, the Jeep Wrangler is the perfect choice for anyone looking to take the road less traveled.
With the Jeep Wrangler you don’t have to choose between your favorite car and paying more for gas thanks to its 10 percent increase in gas efficiency.  That’s going to come in handy when driving around with the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine powering any drive on the back roads of America now with 40 percent more horsepower, 10 percent more torque, and 26 percent faster 0-60 mph.  You can expect to be on the road more and in the station less with the new Jeep Wrangler.
It continues the iconic look incorporating it’s classic look of the seven slotted grille and round headlamps that the Jeep Wrangler is best known for.  It’s also the only 4×4 on the market that is convertible with its open-air design, perfect for that jaunt out in the wilderness.  It’ll be a smooth ride, the Jeep Wrangler is built with comfort in mind.  The insides is lined with only the best of soft-touch materials allowing for a peaceful ride thanks for the vehicles improved NVH (Noise, Vibration, Handling).  It also comes with audio controls right on the steering wheel, allowing easy access and control over the Infinity Premium Sound system that has seven speakers for giving the best possible listen to any radio station or song.  When you add on the ability to have front seats, already decked out in leather trim, heated it’s just too hard to want to turn down.

According to Four Wheeler magazine, it’s the best 4×4 vehicle of the decade.

Jeep is proud about their 4WD in their car brands.  To showcase just how proud they are of the quality, they have their own badge that is found on all of the 4x4s that pass every test they throw at them.  It’s the Jeep Trail Rated badge and if it’s on the jeep, then be guarantee that it’s been rigorously tested to be approved.  In order to get that badge it must pass in the following categories:
・    Articulation
・    Maneuverability
・    Water Fording
・    Ground Clearance
・    Traction
This is where the Wrangler really gets to show off it’s stuff.  It has the most traction of any Wrangler EVER.  Best in class water fording capability (which is up to an astonishing 30 inches of water).  Best in class ground clearance and even best in class turning diameter.  That’s a lot of best in class wins for the Wrangler and it comes for a reason.
Moving on to the engine of this amazing machine, it’s all about the 3.6L Pentastar V6.  With the ability to deliver 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, you’d expect it to have to come at a cost.  Not really, in fact, this engine offers an improvement in the fuel efficiency, giving up to 21 miles per gallon on that venture out to the Adirondacks for the weekend.  It comes with two options for the transmission, the first being a five speed automatic and the other being a six speed manual transmission.
A Jeep this good makes sure to maintain that quality it brags about all the way into the protection it offers the driver and any passengers.  A prime example of the lengths Jeep goes to make you safe and sound is the sports bar that uses high strength steel to improve the side impact performance as well as control when at highway speeds.  The airbags that the Wrangler has is multistage for both the driver and front passenger.  There is also side supplemental airbags.  For even more peace of mind, there are available seat mounted side airbags that deploy from the outboard side of the seat that enhances the protection for the head and thorax should a side impact occur.  In all, Jeep earns it’s bragging rights with the quality of the drive and the safety that it ensures anyone driving or riding.
